Classroom teaching experience
I taught in North Carolina public school classrooms for over 20 years, ranging from grade 6 to grade 12 math classes as well as middle school reading, social studies, and science classes. Additionally, I have taught leadership and college readiness at the middle school level using the AVID program.
Curriculum development
I have created math curriculum for schools, districts, and companies, such as the SAS Institute, Inc. in both the traditional and virtual environments. I also develop individualized learning paths for students in a variety of subjects, including GRE and other test preparation endeavors.
Technology
Seen as a “techy” among my colleagues, I enjoy developing new skills and finding ways that emerging technologies, such as AI capabilities, can improve outcomes, particularly in education. I am self-taught in HTML, Office and Google Workspace tools, Adobe Photoshop, and quickly adapt to new programs.
Virtual teaching experience
I began teaching online in a higher education setting in 2005. Within a year, I taught my first online high school math course. Now, I have over 200 years of experience in teaching test prep, math, and reading in an online setting. I also own and operate my own one-on-one tutoring services (https://mathtutorbell.com/).
Leadership
As an AVID Site Coordinator, I led a school leadership team to develop and implement the first full AVID program in the school district with great success. I am currently pursuing my doctoral in instructional technology leadership, while I already hold a Masters and a 6th-year Educational Specialist degree in educational supervision.
Professional passions
As a licensed gifted and talented teacher, I am eager to find ways to better meet the needs of gifted learners. Further, I am passionate about providing all students, with diverse backgrounds and needs, the opportunities they deserve for optimal achievement.
